Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program

Research suggests that a healthier school environment can result in greater academic achievement and healthier lives for children. Healthy students perform better, attend school     more and behave better in class.

In an effort to comply with the Hawaii wellness guidelines, BOE Policy 1110-6, and promote a healthy lifestyle, we will be participating in a fresh fruit and vegetable program again this year.

Through this program, your child will have an opportunity to try a variety of healthy fresh fruit and vegetable snacks once a week during recess.  The fruits and vegetables that we try will be listed each week.  Take some time to ask your child about the Fruit or Vegetable of the week, and what their thoughts were about it.

In addition to support this effort in encouraging a healthy lifestyle, please be mindful of the snacks your child brings to school, this includes their lunch, recess snack, class celebration foods, etc.

Below is the Wellness Guideline criteria you should consider when purchasing snacks:

There are a variety of program options: morning, afternoon, full-day, and after-school.
